Kindergarten "Our Joy" was established in 1997 and is currently the only kindergarten in the small City of Pregrada (population of 6594). The kindergarten wants to follow in footsteps of the energy independent school in Ostrog which was the first crowdfunded project in Croatia. Financial funds from this campaign will be used to renovate the kindergarten’s roof and improve its overall energy performance. The crowdfunding campaign will try to raise 10,500 EUR by using the donor and reward based crowdfunding model in order to round up the overall budget of the project (60,000 EUR). Although the project is small in scale its purpose is primarily to promote and educate general community on energy efficiency in public buildings and showcase crowdfunding as a viable financing method for sustainable energy projects. The project is supported by the North-West Croatia Regional Energy Agency which operates the first Croatian crowdfunding platform for sustainable energy projects. The next phase of the continuous refurbishment of the "Our Joy" kindergarten building will include the application and installation of an external wall and roof insulation system which will result in energy savings of approximately 25%. In addition, increased energy performance of the building will help lower the annual energy bill by 2000 EUR and provide more financial resources for other educational programmes.
